Possible start to your tour of Innsbruck. Tour of the city. Pass through the Zillertal valley and over the Gerlos pass and you will leave Tyrol and quickly arrive at the Krimml waterfalls in the state of Salzburg. These waterfalls cascade from a height of 380 m over three levels. Majestic mountains line your route from the noble, picturesque town of Kitzbühel to Kufstein, one of Tyrol's gems. Past the Hochkönig mountains and along the narrow hairpin bends is the Filzensattel mountain (1290 m), directly followed by the long winding curves of the Bergstrasse up to the Dientner Sattel road and down again along the virtually endless curve to Bischofshofen. The Salzburg Dolomitenstraße road gives you the chance to take a breather and enjoy the landscape.
Past the Tennengebirge mountains and turn right just before Abtenau in the direction of Salzkammergut. From the Gschütt (1000 m) pass, the road runs steeply up to Gosau and on to the Hallstatt lake, one of the most beautiful alpine lakes. In Hallstatt you can visit one of the oldest salt mines in the world (3,000 years old). The nearby town of Obertraun includes the natural beauty of the ‘Dachstein Mammuthöhle' and ‘Rieseneishöhle' caves (allow at least 4 hours for a visit). From here, on to the Salzkammergut region of Styria over the Koppen pass which is a real undiscovered gem. It begins with a 23% gradient and cobblestones and leads through a romantic and woodland stretch to Bad Aussee. Along the well constructed Passstraße road to Postalm in the direction of Golling, you pass the Lammeröfen gorge. A much coveted motorbike track leads to Hallein through the Wiestal valley to the Salzburgring racing circuit. From here you can take a trip along the Bundesstraße to Salzburg. Let yourself be seduced by the charm of Mozart's city of birth and the hustle and bustle of the streets. A trip through the Hellbrunn palace gardens is sure to bring a pleasant surprise. From Mondsee then along the Seeuferstraße road and on to Unterach am Atteresee - Weißenbach - Steinbach - Altmünster (Hochkreuth nature and wildlife park at an altitude of 1000 m) - Gmunden. The road which connects Attersee to the Traunsee past the Höllengebirge mountains twists and turns. In the charming city of Gmunden you can visit the museum of vintage cars and motorbikes... The tour takes you to Amstetten on the B 121 and further across the Danube to Grein, the tranquil Danube town with the rococo theatre. The route follows the Strudengau with many small towns to Melk. Visits to the monastery and Schloss Schallaburg. From here you go south of the Danube to Mautern, with a very beautiful view of the vineyards on the left bank of the Danube. It is possible here to take a detour via Krems, to Dürnstein, Spitz in die Wachau, the picturesque wine-making towns and architecture rich in history. On our way towards Herzogenburg there is the Benedictine Göttweig monastery. The route goes further south via Rohrbach, Kleinzell to the ‘Kalten Kuchl’. Via the Rohrer Sattel we travel on to Pernitz, Bad Vöslau and then to Baden, well-known as a noble health resort. Here, you can relax in Caribbean flair, take in the culture of the famous opera theatres, try your luck in Europe’s largest casino and taste the wine of the Thermen region. | Baden – Rust – Fürstenfeld - Feldbach approx. 279 km |
Travel through the Vienna basin and through the Leithagebirge mountains with a beautiful view across the Neusiedlersee lake to Rust, the town of storks and excellent wines. Then on to Mattersburg via the Rosaliengebirge mountains - visit the Forchtenstein castle (collection of weapons and paintings, Türkenbrunnen). After an angular descent, continue along the well-built Bundesstraße through the ‘Bucklige Welt' area and over the Wechsel pass (967 m) to Styria known as the ‘Grüne Mark'. Secluded and wooded - the street is perfectly adapted to the landscape. The Vorau monastery suddenly appears out of the woodlands on the Styrian Blumenstraße. Travelling in the direction of Pöllau, there is a magnificent view of the Pöllautal nature park. A Baroque monastery and castle can be found in the area. Continuing in the direction of Fürstenfeld, we would recommend a visit to Blumau, home to the hotel village and thermal spring centre designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The trip to Bad Radkersburg is a highlight of this tour – the hilly landscape, the vineyards, the optimum route – the landscape holds up well with any comparison with Tuscany. Bad Radkersburg is a lovable, small town with Southern European flair. For your well-being and health, there is the park thermal baths, the Vitalstudio and the health resort centre. The tour follows the wine-growing area of the South Steiermark, the pumpkin fields, sunflower and corn fields. After Deutschlandsberg the ascent is quick following tight bends. The protracted altitude roads take you to the highest point in the Heb Alps (1380 m) with splendid panoramic views. From here we take in the state of Kärnten. After 30 kilometres of strenuous bends, we follow a well-developed stretch towards Bad St. Leonhard. From here we once again follow a route filled with bends uphill to Klippitzörl (1644 m) with even more splendid views. After another 30 kilometres of mountainous terrain and a short section on a motorway we reach St. Veit an der Glan, where we branch off to Klagenfurt. Take in a dip and/or visit the town.
