Holidays in Linz, Upper Austria
Take a walk through the centre of the town and you can just feel the history of the place.
The lanes of the old part of town directly below the castle take you back to days gone by. Magnificent houses such as the Mozarthaus, are well worth taking a closer look at, just as the courtyards behind the arches. Right at the end you can find a large baroque main square.
With one of the most significant shopping streets in Austria, Linz provides good shopping and a wide variety of goods. In between, cosy café gardens and traditional coffee houses invite you to take the weight off your feet and enjoy yourself for a while. And there’s one thing you simply can’t do without: the Linzer Torte, the oldest cake recipe in the world goes back over 350 years. Where else would you expect it to taste best if not in its home town?
Linz shows its most beautiful face on the Danube a point vouched by over 200,000 cycling tourists every. These have made the Danube (Passau-Linz-Vienna) Cycle Path the most favourite cycle path in Europe. And those who stroll along both banks, taking in a cosy walk, can also vouch for Linz’s beauty on the Danube. Take a seat in one of the many visitors’ gardens, watch the ships sail by and let your soul sway from side to side. When the sun goes down, the town’s profile is lit up in a display of lights – one of the views you really shouldn’t miss out on.
Late evening and into the night, Linz wakes up to a new life: cosy bars for lively chats, or live music, hot discotheques and noble night clubs. It has been know for some of our guests to resurface in the early morning hours from the ‘Bermuda triangle’ – as the night life in the old part of town is called locally.
